Practadgoal Talking Points
[2:15] Matt’s story of how he got into a teambuilding business, and how he adjusted when the pandemic started.
- His background and experience in theater, drama, leadership training and psychology courses all led him to who he is today.
- When the pandemic started, the main challenge was how to reinvent his business.
- He decided not to change the business model, but to change the venue – the talent-hosted, hands-on interactive teambuilding experiences shifted to virtual.
[8:45] What is teambuilding and its importance to businesses
- The terminology “teambuilding”, unfortunately, has some negative connotations attached to it.
- Teambuilding is more than “trust falls,” zip lines, and other activities. It’s learning how to communicate and collaborate together organically.
- For business owners, you want to get your team organically working together and having fun, because fun has a positive effect on productivity, ultimately affecting the bottom line.
[16:02] How to take the fear out of teambuilding
- Ensure safety.
- Determine when to do it.
- Create situations where participants will be able to communicate and collaborate organically.
- Insert lighthearted competition.
[23:28] Choosing a teambuilding company/ professional to work with
- Work with a teambuilding company/ boutique firm that you jive with.
- A benefit of doing this is that you don’t get to do everything. Organizing team-building activities is a lot of work.
- Working with a professional would help you determine what is a good idea, and what’s not; what works, and what doesn’t.
[27:05] Virtual teambuilding trends
- Matt currently focuses on virtual game shows, but there are other teambuilding companies that offer virtual escape rooms and virtual scavenger hunts.
- Virtual team building activities still need insurance.
- Matt chooses to prioritize the safety of the participants because safety keeps people happier and more comfortable.
