Your Voice Is Done Waiting

There’s something about spring.

Even before the weather fully cooperates, you can feel it.
Things wake up.
Ideas. Energy. Old dreams you boxed up on a mental shelf are ready to be dusted off.

If you’ve felt a nudge lately to speak more clearly, to stop muting yourself online, or to finally share that story you’ve been sitting on for years… that’s not random.

Spring has a way of tapping the glass and saying,
“Hey. You still want this, remember?”

For a long time, I thought I had to wait until I felt fearless before I could show up fully.

People ask me all the time…Heather, how are you so seemingly confident all the time? It’s because I trust myself.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, though. Having confidence doesn’t mean not having doubts. It doesn’t mean that you have to be perfect.

Confidence isn’t waiting until you feel fearless.
It’s speaking clearly because you trust yourself.

And that starts with your voice.

The Old Script: Visibility as Performance

Let’s talk about the old script a lot of us were handed around “professional” visibility.

Sound polished.
Cover every angle.
Don’t say the wrong thing.
Don’t be too much.
Don’t be too quiet either.

So we over-edit every sentence.
We layer on disclaimers: “This might sound silly, but…”
We smooth over the parts of our story that feel too honest.
We use phrases that sound like everyone else on LinkedIn because “that’s what performs.”

From the outside, it can look impressive.
From the inside, it’s draining!

You’re present online, but your actual voice is nowhere to be found.

I see this all the time with the CEOs and founders we work with. They’re experienced. They’re thoughtful. Their offline presence is magnetic.

But online?
They sound like a corporate press release with a selfie attached (hopefully not AI, please use your real face!).

And underneath that is something important:

It’s not that they don’t have something to say.
It’s that they don’t fully trust that saying it their way is acceptable.

Censoring yourself is exhausting!

Self-Trust Before Visibility

Visibility is safer when self-trust is already in place.

If you don’t trust your own lens yet, social media feels like walking into a room where everyone has a microphone and you’re not sure you were invited.

Self-trust sounds like:

“I know what I stand for.”
“I know who I’m talking to.”
“I’m allowed to say this in a way that sounds like me.”

That doesn’t mean you never adjust or grow.
It means you’re not reinventing yourself every time you log into LinkedIn.

When you trust yourself, your expression changes:

  • You don’t need a paragraph of context for a simple idea

  • You stop apologizing before you share something useful

  • You let a story stand without explaining it from every angle

And the wild part?
People respond more when you do this, not less.

Because your voice finally sounds like a person, not an algorithm.

When Your Voice Reverberates 🔊

There’s a difference between posting once…
and creating something that echoes.

I was reminded of this recently when we were invited to speak for United Concordia.

They didn’t “randomly” find us.

They referenced specific LinkedIn article titles.

They mentioned blog themes.

They found a carousel in a search.

One idea had traveled.

It started with Heather’s lived experience.
That message became a blog.
Then became a LinkedIn article.
Then a carousel.
Then showed up in Google results.
Then landed in a conversation for a future speaking date.

That’s reverberation.

That only happens when your voice is clear.

If you’re constantly rewriting yourself…
If your tone shifts every week…
If your ideas sound borrowed…

…there’s nothing solid enough to echo.

But when you trust your lens?

  • Your ideas start to travel.
  • They repeat.
  • They compound.
  • They reach rooms you weren’t even in.

Think rock and roll for a second.

A band doesn’t whisper one note and hope someone hears it.

They play it.
They amplify it.
They let it bounce off the walls.

Your content works the same way.

Clarity creates vibration.
Consistency creates amplification.
Self-trust creates staying power.

You don’t need to shout.
You just need to say something authentic enough to reverberate.

What Your Voice Actually Needs

So what does your voice actually need to feel ready?

It needs practice.

This month, we’re working with a simple confidence practice with our community:

“Say It Simply”

Each week, try this:

  1. Share one idea without disclaimers
    No “sorry this is long.”
    No “this might be silly.”
    Just say the thing.

  2. Tell one short story from your past
A lesson you learned the challenging way.
A moment that changed how you work.

  3. Practice clarity over cleverness
    Before you post, ask:

“Would the person I’m trying to help understand this in one read?”
If the answer is no, simplify.

Your entire online presence doesn’t need to be overhauled in one night.
You just need a few reps where your voice gets to show up as-is.

That’s how self-trust grows.

“My Way” Visibility (With Strategy Behind It)

“My way” visibility doesn’t mean ignoring strategy.
It means aligning strategy with who you are and where the platforms are clearly heading.

Right now, that includes video.

Some leaders think best in writing.
Some come alive as soon as the camera turns on.
Some shine when they’re in conversation or Q&A.

You don’t have to launch a studio overnight.
You also don’t have to figure out every format by yourself.

Instead, ask:

  • Where do I feel most like myself?

  • Where do my ideas flow?

  • Where does my community actually pay attention?

Then build from there — with video as an expansion lane instead of a pressure test.

You can experiment with:

  • Short, simple videos

  • Carousels that start as talking points

  • Live or recorded conversations

  • Longer posts or articles you later repurpose on camera

You don’t have to hold the whole “how” on your own.
Your job is to bring the perspective; a good team (like HMS) can help you shape it into formats that travel further, including video.

The foundation is this:

Your voice needs to sound like you in every format.

Not like the last thread that went viral.
Not like a generic “thought leader” script.

You, on purpose — in writing, on video, and anywhere your people find you.

Your Voice Is Ready

If you’ve been waiting for a sign that you’re “ready” to show up more visibly as yourself, here it is:

You’re not behind.
You’re not late.
You’re not the only one who’s felt quieter than you meant to.

You’re just at a threshold.

On one side is the version of you that keeps rewriting, over-explaining, and sitting on ideas until they feel “safe.”

On the other side is the version that says:

“This is what I see.”
“This is what I know.”
“This is how I can help.”

One simple post.
One short story.
One clear sentence at a time.

That’s enough to start.

At Holloway Media Services, we help CEOs and founders build visibility that feels like an honest extension of who they are — not a performance they have to maintain.

When your voice is rooted in self-trust, expression stops feeling like a risk and starts feeling like leadership.

⚡️ Power line

(Each month, we’ll share a Powerline: a punchy phrase to steady your energy, lock in your confidence, and help you lead online and off.)

I bring the spark, I own the mark and I speak so my people can find me.”

Cheering you on,
Heather 💚

Your voice is allowed to take up space.

If you’re ready for your content to sound like you — and for your visibility to feel safer because it’s rooted in self-trust — let’s talk about what that could look like.
